RTR applied and was awarded a grant from the Duke Energy Foundation for $25,000. These funds are dedicated to helping our small businesses grow and thrive in downtown Rutherfordton.

What can the funds be used for?

The funds can be used for items such as:

• modifying or expanding space

• improving or developing an e-commerce site 

• expanding capacity for delivering goods and services

• furniture or displays 

• renovations

• accessibility compliance

• and other items may be considered

Who qualifies?

To qualify, businesses must be:

• located in the downtown RTR District.

• independently owned with <50 employees with a brick-and­mortar in Rutherfordton: no chains or franchises. 

• be ready to do the work before November 15 and provide receipt(s) for the work completed to receive the full amount

What is the process to apply?

Businesses can apply for grant amounts between $1000-5000. To apply, click on the link below and complete the application by September 13.

• Grants will be awarded no later than October 7.

• Only half of the amount awarded will be paid upfront. Businesses must turn in receipts showing expenditures to receive the rest of the funding.

• Project must be completed by November 15 and receipts submitted for full funding.
